Marek Franciszek Szufa (born February 7, 1954 , † June 18, 2011 in Płock ) was a Polish aerobatic pilot .

Life

Szufa, born in 1954, has been the captain of the Polish airline LOT Polish Airlines since 1979 , where he flew various types, including a Boeing 767 . By the time he died, he had spent more than 20,000 hours behind the controls of an airplane.

For many years he was a member of the Polish national gliding aerobatics team ; his greatest success was winning the runner-up world championship.

During a demonstration with his Christen Eagle II aerobatic plane at the Płock Air Picnic 2011 on June 18, 2011 in the Polish town of Płock, Szufa crashed his plane into the Vistula . Despite immediately initiated rescue measures, he could only be rescued dead.
