Margarethe Goeb

Margarethe Goeb (born April 15, 1892 in Gruben ; † January 23, 1962 in Hagen ) was a German mathematician and teacher.

Live and act

Margarethe Goeb attended the elementary school in Gruben for five years , then the girls 'higher school in Hünfeld for three years and finally the teachers' seminar in Duderstadt . After graduating, she worked as a primary school teacher in Geilenkirchen from 1911 to 1913 .

Between 1913 and 1918 she studied mathematics, physics and biology at the University of Münster and then at the University of Göttingen . In 1918 she passed the mathematics exam with David Hilbert in Göttingen . Between 1918 and 1920 Goeb worked as a teacher in Hildesheim. She then went on to teach at the municipal high school in Hagen, the headmaster of which was the mathematician Fritz Möhle from 1909 to 1934. With extraordinary commitment and great enthusiasm, she taught mathematics here and headed a biology study group. After the Second World War, Goeb was transferred to the Hager girls' high school. In 1948 she was appointed senior teacher, took over the provisional management of the school in 1951 and was the headmaster from 1953 until her retirement in 1957.

The central archive of German mathematicians' bequests at the Lower Saxony State and University Library in Göttingen is keeping part of Goeb's estate.
