Margarethe von Hanau (1452–1467)
Margarethe von Hanau (* 1452 ; † March 14, 1467 ) was the daughter of Count Reinhard III. von Hanau (1412–1452) and the Countess Palatinate Margarethe von Pfalz-Mosbach (1432–1457).
Margarethe came from a house whose relatives died early over two centuries. Her father died in 1452, her mother five years later, but this was followed by a long series of minor guardianship that spanned two centuries. Her brother Philipp was also a small child when his father died.
In order to secure the local network of rulers, Margarethe was betrothed unusually early, to Philipp von Eppstein- Königstein. The marriage contract is dated August 14, 1459, at which time she was just seven years old. Count Johann von Nassau-Wiesbaden acted as one of the three middlemen in addition to two lower nobles . According to the contract, Margarethe was to receive a dowry of 12,000 guilders , a very substantial sum, about three times the usual amount. The amount of this is probably explained by the fact that she was the only daughter of her parents, her parents had already died and therefore no dowry had to be raised for any other sister. The sum was supposed to be "refuted" by Eppstein with 650 guilders, that is, "interest paid" and this money was to be provided from the income of the city of Butzbach .
The marriage did not take place, however: she died before the marriage.
