Margarethe von Winterfeldt

Sophie Margarethe von Winterfeldt , actually Margarete (born January 23, 1902 in Berlin ; † October 7, 1978 there ), was a blind concert singer and singing teacher .

Life and accomplishments

Von Winterfeldt was a granddaughter of General Rudolf von Winterfeldt . Her parents were the Prussian Lieutenant General Hans von Winterfeldt (born March 29, 1862) and his wife Karoline von Bohlen und Halbach (born August 2, 1872). Major General Detlof von Winterfeldt was her uncle.

She worked as a university teacher at the music academies in Freiburg and Berlin . In Berlin, Margarethe von Winterfeldt also ran her own singing studio until the end.

She was best known as the teacher of the later world-famous tenor Fritz Wunderlich , who received his vocal training from 1950 to 1955 in Freiburg.

Students of hers were u. a. Herrad Wehrung and Liat Himmelhub .
