Rudolf von Winterfeldt

Rudolf Friedrich Detlof Vivkeit von Winterfeldt (born March 22, 1829 in Breslau , † July 23, 1894 in Ostend ) was a Prussian infantry general , long-time adjutant to Prince Alexander of Prussia and treasurer of the Order of St. John .

Life

Rudolf was a son of the Prussian High Tribunal Councilor Karl von Winterfeld (1784–1852) and his wife Wilhelmine, née von Thümen (1789–1845).

Military career

After attending the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Gymnasium and the university in Berlin , Winterfeldt joined the 2nd Guard Regiment on foot in the Prussian Army on April 1, 1849 . By mid-September 1850 he was promoted to secondary lieutenant and from mid-November 1855 he was in command as adjutant of the 1st Battalion in the 2nd Guards Landwehr Regiment. From March 5, 1859 to February 2, 1861, this was followed by a command to provide services to Prince Alexander of Prussia, to whom Winterfeldt was to remain lifelong. By the beginning of December 1861 he was promoted to captain and company commander , on August 15, 1864 he was commanded again to Prince Alexander of Prussia and on October 1, 1864 was appointed his personal adjutant. In this capacity, Winterfeldt took part in the battle of Königgrätz during the war against Austria in 1866 and received the Order of the Red Eagle, IV class with swords.

After the war, Winterfeldt was promoted to major on December 24, 1866 . For the duration of the mobilization on the occasion of the war against France in 1870/71 he was in command of the headquarters of the High Command of the 3rd Army and took part in the battles at Wörth and Sedan as well as the siege of Paris . Awarded the Iron Cross II class, Winterfeldt returned to his relationship as personal adjutant to Prince Alexander of Prussia after the Peace of Frankfurt at the end of May 1871. He advanced by Dec 24th 1889 characterized general of the infantry with the service entitled "General à la suite of Prince Alexander of Prussia." For his work he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle 1st Class with Oak Leaves and Swords on the Rings 1st Class and the Crown Order 1st Class.

Winterfeldt was a legal knight of the Order of St. John and acted as treasurer of the order. After his death he was buried on July 26, 1894 in the Berlin Invalidenfriedhof .

family

Winterfeldt married Pauline von Roeder (1842-1914) in la Faraz near Vevey on September 22, 1859 . After his death, on May 14, 1897, she married the German ambassador to the imperial court in Saint Petersburg, Friedrich Johann von Alvensleben (1836–1913).
