Margaropus is a genus of ticks that occurs in Africaand has three species: M. reidi and M. wileyi parasitize on giraffes in the African lowland savannas, M. winthemi , on the other hand, occurs in the South African highlands with Cape mountain zebra , but also infects domestic cattle and horses .

Margaropus is similar in appearance to Rhipicephalus , but the palps have no combs and the leg length increases in males from the first to the fourth pair of legs. Eyes are present and in the females are located on the outer edges of the back shield . The mouthparts are short and the base of the capitulum is hexagonal. The preanal shield runs back into two pointed appendages encompassing the anus. Posterior marginal lobules ( festoons ) are not developed.
