The Roman Catholic parish church of the Assumption of Mary is a late Gothic hall church in the Mittich district of Neuhaus am Inn in the Lower Bavarian district of Passau . It belongs to the parish Mittich in the parish association Neuhaus am Inn in the deanery Pocking of the diocese Passau .

History and architecture

The uniform late Gothic building from the second half of the 15th century was built from quarry stone masonry with tufa blocks . On the outside, the building is structured by buttresses with an angular center section. The tracery of the two- and three-lane windows are made of tuff and to a large extent have been preserved or have been renewed in sandstone. The tower stands on the north side of the choir and is plastered. It is divided into five storey blocks and ends with a renewed, eight-sided pointed helmet with shingle covering over hip gables. The vestibule on the south side is closed with a warped vaulted star, similar to the parish church in Aigen am Inn . The inner portal has an elaborate, profiled frame with a keel arch with a large finial and high pinnacles on the sides, crowned with crenellations . In the shield arch of the western vault, the crucifixion is depicted in a late Gothic, fragmentary fresco.

The interior of the stately single-nave structure is of considerable height. The choir is reduced in depth in favor of the width and thus integrated very harmoniously into the room. The wall pillar niches in the nave and the shield arches in the choir are sharply pointed, which contrasts the barrel shape of the vault. The regular rib network of the vault shows a uniform sequence of apex diamonds and cross ribs. In contrast, the parallel rib vault of the choir is kept simpler. The ribs are supported by semicircular services with profiled capitals. In the ship, the pair of eastern wall pillars with the associated services is not brought down to the ground, but is caught by consoles with coats of arms. The color of the interior framework is yellow, light green, brick and violet red. Carefully executed, variable tendrils are painted on the vault. The plate keystones are painted ornamentally and figuratively; several coats of arms are also painted. The three-nave vaulted west gallery is provided with star ribs. The arcades rest on columns made of red marble, the keel arches are profiled. Freely worked out leaf brackets for figures are attached to the gallery.

Furnishing

During the restoration in 1973, the furnishings were rearranged in a museum-like manner. Two late Gothic paintings on wood depict the Madonna and an Ecce homo , are dated on the reverse to the year 1498 and presumably come from a Passau workshop. The finely executed half-figures are shown in arched niches on a gold brocade ground . Several baroque paintings on canvas from the mid-17th century depict depictions of the martyrdoms of Saints Sebastian and Barbara. Of the carved figures, a life-size Madonna from the early 17th century and Saints Hubertus and Johannes Evangelista from the Rococo period should be mentioned. Four bells form the ring.
