location

history

The beginnings probably go back to the 2nd or 3rd millennium BC. The origin of the name is assumed to be Celtic mediacum and derived from this Latin villa medica . From 748 to 1170 the place was under the feudal rule of the Counts of Mattau and Rottau. Since 1170 he belonged to the county of Neuburg . From an ecclesiastical perspective, Mittich became a branch of the Hartkirchen parish in 1090, and the Augustinian canons of St. Nikola took care of it from 1143 onwards.

In 1610 Mittich became a vicariate and in 1696 a parish incorporated into the St. Nikola monastery. In 1740 the former pilgrimage chapel of St. Koloman was built. Today it is right next to Bundesstrasse 12 . During the Austrian War of Succession in 1742/43 Serbs and Croats looted the place.

After secularization in Bavaria , Mittich became an independent parish in 1806. The municipality was founded in 1818. The wooden bridge over the Rott on the road to Neuhaus has existed since 1853. It has wooden lattice struts on both sides and a gable roof. The floor is laid out with wooden planks without fixed anchoring, so that a booming rumble arises during the single-lane crossing. Mittich was often affected by the floods of the Rott and the Inn, especially in 1899, 1954 and 2013, when only the roofs of some houses could be seen.

With the regional reform in Bavaria , Mittich came to Neuhaus am Inn on July 1, 1972.
