The branch church of the Assumption of Mary is located in the Oberzeitlbach district of the market town of Altomünster in the Dachau district ( Bavaria ). The church consecrated to Our Lady has always belonged to the parish of Altomünster. It is a registered monument with the file number D-1-74-111-50 under monument protection.

History of the place and the church

In the year 772 Zeitlbach is mentioned in a deed of gift dated September 8th, as Duke Tassilo III. , Bishop Virgil von Salzburg and Bishop Arbeo von Freising were present at the donation of the property of two nobles to the cathedral church Freising . Around 1260 a distinction is made between Oberzeitlbach and Unterzeitlbach. The settlements of Oberndorf, Plixenried , Radenzhofen, Röckersberg and Übelmanna belonged to the branch church . In the 15th century, from which the oldest part of the church originates, the patronage of Our Lady is mentioned with the patronage day August 15th. The parish Altomünster was incorporated into the young Altomünster monastery in 1504 , with the subsidiary churches Oberzeitlbach and Ruppertskirchen mentioned.

The cemetery was established in 1809/10 after its approval had been requested by the monastery in 1734.

architecture

The church is a hall with a retracted choir closed on five sides . The tower stands in the northern corner of the church building. The choir and the tower substructure date from the 15th century, the nave and the octagonal tower are from 1613. The church was redesigned around 1730, the pointed spire of the tower was built in 1864, it replaced a baroque helmet. The nave was extended to the west in 1947/48.

Furnishing

The church has three Rococo altars inside. The main altar is consecrated to the Mother of God and shows the coronation of Mary as a group of sculptures . The two side altars are dedicated to St. Gallus and Our Lady of Sorrows . The ceiling painting depicts Christ floating on clouds above the village of Oberzeitlbach and blessing it.
