The Church of the Assumption of Mary in Seebarn is a Roman Catholic parish church in the Schwandorf district in Bavaria . It is one of the three parish churches of the Neukirchen-Balbini –Seebarn– Penting parish community in the Neunburg-Oberviechtach dean's office of the Regensburg diocese .

history

A church in Seebarn is mentioned as early as 1280. The current church was built around 1300 and expanded in the 15th century. It was also used as a fortification. From 1545 to 1625 she was Protestant. In 1908 the church was extended backwards by Heinrich Hauberrisser and restored in 1964.

Building

The Gothic church of Seebarn from around 1300 has a firmly walled church interior and two towers. One of the towers is Romanesque. The choir has a ribbed vault made of sandstone.

Furnishing

A Gothic choir altar and Gothic wall paintings adorn the interior of the church. The north side altar, Mary standing on the moon, dates from the 15th century. A life-size late Gothic wooden crucifix is ​​on the north wall. Acanthus carving, around 1700, adorns the cheeks of the church chairs. Grave tablets, half-length portraits of the apostles and votive pictures have been preserved.

organ

After 1700 Johann Conrad Vogel built an organ. In 1896 Willibald Siemann built Opus 50, a one-manual instrument with six registers . The instrument was rebuilt and expanded around 1962 and 1994.

graveyard

The cemetery wall dates from the 12th century. A late Gothic Mount of Olives from around 1510 is in a niche in the cemetery.
