Maria Zittrauer (born January 10, 1913 in Badbruck , Bad Gastein , State of Salzburg , † July 6, 1997 in Bad Gastein) was an Austrian writer and poet and first winner of the Georg Trakl Prize for Poetry .

Life

Maria Zittrauer attended the boarding school of the Nonnberg monastery and then ran her own café in the Gastein Valley as a restaurateur . She was a member of the Lyrikfreunde Salzburg and maintained friendly contacts with Karl Heinrich Waggerl and Thomas Bernhard .

In addition to her daily job, she began to write articles for magazines and almanacs as well as her own poems , novels and stories at an early age . In 1952 the author received the Georg Trakl Prize for poetry, which was awarded for the first time. In 1954 she published her highly acclaimed volume of poetry "Die Feuerlilie" in Otto Müller Verlag . Another honor was given to her in 1978 when she was awarded the Rauris Poetry Prize . In 1992 she brought out a greatly expanded new edition of her 1977 work "I paint my poem at the gate of the gardens" under the name "Serpent Flute" . Shortly before her death, her last work followed in March 1997 with the volume of poetry "Der Sehnsuchten Flug" .

Maria-Zittrauer-Lyrik-Förderpreis

On the occasion of the Gastein poet's 90th birthday, the "Maria-Zittrauer-Lyrik-Förderpreis" was launched in 2003 by the Gastein cultural group. The first call for proposals took place in 2004 with the aim of promoting poets living in Salzburg or those born in this country whose lyrical works have not yet been printed in book form.
