Maria Denis

María Denis (actually Maria Ester Beomonte ; born November 22, 1916 in Buenos Aires , Argentina , † April 15, 2004 in Rome ) was an Italian actress .

life and career

Denis was born in Argentina to Italian parents and came to Italy at the age of 16. In 1934 she had great success with the film Seconda B by Goffredo Alessandrini , which she had numerous more follow up to the early 1940s, mostly comedies that received immense audiences. With her pure and seemingly innocent appearance, which was not alien to the mischievous, the critics attested her delicacy and liveliness in the game. Together with Assia Noris and Alida Valli , she was one of the audience's fiancés during these years, who also developed dramatic potential (especially in the films Augusto Geninas and Ferdinando Maria Poggolis ). During the Second World War, she went to the rescue of Luchino Visconti , who was threatened with prison, in the dependence of the fascist police chief of Rome, Pietro Koch . Because of this relationship she was later imprisoned as a collaborator for a short time; her career was badly damaged, and Visconti hadn't shown any gratitude either. Denis was still active until 1954; after having married an industrialist the year before, she withdrew from the film business.

She died as a result of lung failure at the age of 87.
