In early 2009, Maria Gadú released her first album that bears her name. Soon after the release of her album, the singer quickly gained attention in the Brazilian media. On February 21, 2010 Maria Gadú was awarded the gold record for selling over 50,000 CDs of her first album.

In 2010 she gave several concerts together with the old star of the MPB, Caetano Veloso , which resulted in a live album released in 2011.

In 2011 Maria Gadú's debut album was also released in Europe. In Portugal and Italy it was placed in the top ten and the song Shimbalaiê was a number one hit in Italy . In 2014 the album was also released in Germany and was also able to place itself in the charts there.
