Maria Gugelberg von Moos

Maria Barbara Flandrina Gugelberg von Moos (born February 6, 1836 in Maienfeld , † October 29, 1918 there ) was a Swiss  botanist  and flower artist.

She was born at Salenegg Castle . She developed an interest in natural history and later botany at an early age. Only in middle age did she begin to systematically collect and study plants. Your botanical author abbreviation is " Gugelb. ".

Her most important work was the study of mosses and liverworts ; she discovered 74 new species in  Graubünden and other  cantons  in Switzerland. She worked with the botanist Christian Georg Brügger and created detailed illustrations of his hybrids . Some of her illustrations of primroses, houseleek, and saxifrage were considered particularly valuable. 

Gugelberg von Moos was the first woman to be accepted as a corresponding member of the Natural Research Society of Graubünden for her contributions to botany  .
