description
Church building
The Maria Königin church is located below the old village road on a slope, near the B 317 . The rectangular building has two pent roofs running in opposite directions . In the southern roof, a bell tower with an attached cross rises imperceptibly from the roof. While the walls of the church are lightly plastered, the roofs are clad in dark slate. On the north side of the building, intensely colored concrete glass windows let light into the interior of the church.
Interior and equipment
The entrance is on the east facade; The church is entered via the anteroom on the mountain side, which leads via a staircase to the gallery and further down into the prayer room. The simple altar table made of Jura limestone was designed by the Rheinfeld artist Leonhard Eder . The four-wound crucifix in a white robe on a blue background, surrounded by the representation of the four evangelist symbols, comes from Benedikt Schaufelberger, like the 14 Stations of the Cross in mosaic work, which are touching in their expressiveness in 1988. Benedikt Schaufelberger also created the church windows. The two-part window made of thick glass concrete on the north side of the chancel shows the motif of the burning thorn bush (in the Bible in the book of Exodus, chapter 3, verse 2), whereby the thorns in their design also remind of the thorns of the crown of thorns of Jesus Artist was intended. The center of the Burning Bush also contains the deeply Christian symbol of the grain of wheat in the depiction of Benedikt Schaufelberger, which falls into the earth and dies and brings much fruit and thus points to the Eucharist. In front of the wall that divides the concrete glass window is the tabernacle, with which the entire design makes a dense theological statement: The God who revealed himself to Moses in the burning bush as the "I-am-there" is the Father of Jesus Christ , and in Jesus Christ this God revealed himself to be close to man in all of life, especially in suffering and in the Eucharist. On the right side wall of the chapel, the only old piece of equipment is a statue of Our Lady with a child in the Rococo style . This was taken over by the Marienkapelle in Schlechtnau.
