history

The church was built in the neo-Gothic style in 1866/67 . After a renovation in 1926, the chapel was painted between 1930 and 1931 by the painter Karl Hauptmann . In the years 1966 to 1967 the shape of the church was simplified, a sacristy was added to the south side, the protective structure was built at the entrance portal and the roof turret was replaced. At the same time, a new wooden ceiling and a gallery were built inside .

description

inner space

The chapel, used as a branch church, is located on the federal road 317 about four kilometers north of Todtnau at an altitude of 783 meters. The Rechtecksbau with gable roof is in the west gable of a roof turret crowned that with a buckled pyramid , a tower ball is crowned and a cross. The entrance is on the west facade and is protected by a small extension with a hipped roof . The long sides have four coupled lancet windows. There are also two pointed arched windows above the entrance. The interior is drawn in with a flat wooden ceiling. There is an ogival triumphal arch between the nave and the choir . In the choir there is a black altar block and a tabernacle by the Freiburg sculptor Alfred Erhart . The altar cross, the candlestick and the communion bench, which were brought in in 1967 as part of the redesign, also come from him. The crossways panels based on designs by Maria Laach Monastery were created in 1988. Rainer Dorwarth designed the twelve ornamental windows . Next to an Immaculata from 1968 in the choir arch there is a stone pine figure representing the patron St. Wendelin .

Two bells hang in the roof turret. The larger one with the strike note f ′ ′ bears the name of the chapel patron Wendelin, the smaller as ′ ′ bell is dedicated to St. Barbara. Both were manufactured in special bronze in 1950 by the Albert Junker foundry in Brilon .
