history

Foundation stone

After the first church of St. Cornelius had become too small, a new church was built on the slope between 1952 and 1954 according to plans by architects Fridolin Bosch and Rupert Muffler. It was consecrated on July 25, 1954 by the vicar vicar Simon Hirt from Freiburg.

description

Church building

St. Cornelius is located on a hillside slightly above the thoroughfare in Muggenbrunn. A square choir is attached to the rectangular nave with a gable roof in the northeast . At 6.90 meters wide, this is significantly narrower than the 11.60 meter wide nave. Overall, the church measures 26 meters in length. A south-westerly extension 3 meters deep contains a staircase and entrance to the church. This is lower than the nave and also covered with a gable roof. There are four rectangular, long windows on each of the long sides. A square roof turret with a low corpus rises above the gable in the southwest, containing sound arcades and a dial. This is followed by an eight-sided roof pyramid , which is bent in the lower area. The top of the tower is crowned by a tower ball and cross. A small sacristy is built on the valley side .

Interior and equipment

Interior to the choir

The interior of the church is drawn in at its edges with a flat wooden ceiling. The middle part of the ceiling the width of the choir consists of a flat barrel vault. This ceiling, also made of wood, extends from the nave to the choir. The walls are made of white rough plaster. There is a simple altar in the choir, behind it a 1.60 meter high cross. This was created together with the chandeliers by the artist Alfred Erhard. To the left of the choir at the pulpit, an embroidered tapestry shows the patron Cornelius; on the opposite side is a 1.30 meter high statue of the Madonna and child. There are 14 stations of the Cross made of mosaic on the walls. At the entrance below the gallery there is a Pietà on a small altar table . These and the mosaic pictures come from the Westphalian artist Albert Reinker, Everswinkel. The church offers a total of 208 seats.

Bells

The roof turret has two bells cast from special bronze in 1950. The fis ′ ′ bell was baptized Mary , the a ′ ′ bell to the church patron Cornelius. Both bells were cast in Albert Junkler's workshop in Brilon .
