Maria Kobel

Maria Kobel (born August 5, 1897 in Liegnitz , Silesia , today Poland ; † August 14, 1996 in Kronberg im Taunus ) was a German chemist and later head of department at the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Biochemistry .

Life

She studied chemistry at the University of Breslau from 1918 to 1921 and received her doctorate in 1921 with the thesis "About the substances called glyoxylurea in the literature". In 1921 she moved to Berlin , where she worked at the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Biochemistry in Berlin-Dahlem from 1925 to 1936. Between 1929 and 1936 she held the post of head of the tobacco research department . After Carl Neuberg was expelled and the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Biochemistry was temporarily closed as a result, she was employed at the “Hofmann House” in Berlin from 1936. From 1941 she was part of the editorial team of the “Beilstein” manual , and later headed a department . The editorial team was in Berlin until 1945, then in Frankfurt / M .. In 1962, she retired here.

Maria Kobel's scientific achievements concerned ferment research . In the handbook “The Methods of Ferment Research” by Bamann / Myrbäck she published several articles.
