Maria Luisa of Austria-Tuscany (1798-1857)
Maria Luisa of Austria-Tuscany (born August 30, 1798 in Florence , † June 15, 1857 ibid) was an Archduchess of Austria and Princess of Tuscany . She belonged to the House of Habsburg-Lothringen .
Maria Luisa was the second daughter of Grand Duke Ferdinand III. Tuscany (1769-1824) and his first wife Luisa Maria of Naples-Sicily (1773-1802). Her siblings included Grand Duke Leopold II of Tuscany (1797–1870) and Maria Theresa (1801–1855), Queen of Sardinia-Piedmont.
The Archduchess lived at the court of her brother Leopold II. She remained unmarried, especially because she was physically malformed and was therefore referred to by the people as Gobbina (= "the hunchback"). This nickname was not meant negatively; rather, it enjoyed great popularity because of its charitable activities. She was the abbess of the Fräuleinstift for St. Anna in Würzburg . She died in Florence in 1857 at the age of 58 and was buried there.
