Maria Vittoria dal Pozzo ( Maria Vittoria Carlotta Enrichetta Giovanna dal Pozzo della Cisterna ; born August 9, 1847 in Paris , †  November 8, 1876 in Sanremo ) was Queen of Spain (1870–1873) and Duchess of Aosta (1867–1876).

Life

Maria Vittoria dal Pozzo was born in Paris as the eldest daughter of Carlo Emmanuele dal Pozzo, 5th Prince of Cisterna, and his wife Louise Caroline Ghislaine, Countess of Mérode. She enjoyed an excellent upbringing and spoke five languages. After the death of her father in 1864, she inherited his titles and thus became Princess of Cisterna and Belriguardo, Marchesa of Voghera and Countess of Ponderano, among others.

On May 30, 1867, she married Amadeus , Duke of Aosta and second son of the Italian King Viktor Emmanuel II in Turin . When her husband was elected King of Spain on November 16, 1870, she became Queen of Spain. She stayed out of politics and devoted herself mainly to charitable projects. Her husband abdicated two years later, on February 11, 1873.

The couple had three children together:

• Emanuel Philibert (born January 13, 1869 - † July 4, 1931), Marshal of Italy, married to Hélène of France (1871–1951), a daughter of Philippe of Orléans
• Vittorio Emanuele, Count of Turin (* November 24, 1870 - October 10, 1946)
• Luigi Amadeo , Duke of Abruzzo (January 29, 1873 - March 18, 1933), Vice-Admiral of the Royal Italian Navy.

After her husband abdicated, Maria Vittoria returned to Italy with him. She died of tuberculosis in Sanremo in 1876 at the age of 29 and was buried in the Basilica di Superga in Turin.
