List of queens of Spain

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

After the union of the countries of the Crown of Castile and the Crown of Aragon under one ruler, Spain had only one queen who ruled over the country as queen in her own right (such as the British Queen Elizabeth II today ), namely the Queen Isabella II

All other queens on the list below bore this title as a wife, not as ruler in their own right (comparable to today's queens Silvia of Sweden or Letizia of Spain ). However, through their husbands they had, in some cases, considerable influence on Spanish politics. Some also ruled as regents for a long time, for example when their sons or daughters were minors.
