Maria Wolfsberger (* 1973 in Roitham am Traunfall , Austria ) is an Austrian organist , cantor and religious sister living in Germany - her religious name is Sr. Maria Wolfsberger MC . She is organist at the Nikolaikirche (Leipzig) and directs the choirs of Leipzig's parishes St. Petri & Bethlehem. She lives in Leipzig .

biography

From 1992 to 1997, Maria Wolfsberger completed a double degree with a diploma at the Salzburg Mozarteum University - she studied piano pedagogy with a focus on jazz and popular music as well as teaching music education and French. In 2009 she received the Church Music A diploma from the Evangelical College for Church Music Halle (Saale), and in 2012 the organ diploma (artistic postgraduate organ) from the same institution.

Wolfsberger has been a répétiteur and voice trainer for the Leipzig Bach Choir since 2013. She regularly performs substitute services on Saxony's largest organ in St. Nikolai in Leipzig. Since 2015 she has been a lecturer for artistic organ playing, theory and ear training at the church music seminar of the Evangelical Church of Central Germany in Halle (Saale).

Wolfsberger has a lively concert activity at home and abroad as well as radio and CD recordings. She also deals with experimental music as well as organ improvisations for silent films ; occasionally in a trio with pipa and percussion .

Wolfsberger's instrument, in addition to the organ, is the chromatic harmonica . She has been involved in international concerts with this instrument since 1988. Wolfsberger has won the first prize in chromatic harmonica (solo) several times at international competitions in Holland, the USA and Germany. There was also a Japan tour and TV, radio and television recordings. She received a performance scholarship from the state of Upper Austria and was a jury member at competitions in France and Germany.

She is committed to promoting the harmonica in contemporary music and works with composers for numerous world premieres . Wolfsberger gives concerts at festivals for contemporary music, such as "Aspects" Salzburg, "Dahoam" Upper Austria and "String" Salzkammergut.

Wolfberger's CD productions include “Mahabri”, “Harmonica Quartett Austria”, “Painted Harmony” and “Die neue Mundharmonika”.

Maria Wolfsberger has been an organ expert for the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Saxony since 2017 . Sister Maria Wolfsberger is a member of the Catholic Community of Missionaries of Christ . She has lived in Leipzig with three sisters since 2004.
