IC 4040 is a bar-spiral galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type SBcd in the constellation Coma Berenices in the northern sky . It is an estimated 351 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 105,000 ly. The galaxy is considered a member of the Coma galaxy cluster Abell 1656 .
The galaxies IC 4026 , IC 4041 , IC 4045 , IC 4051 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered on April 12, 1891 by Guillaume Bigourdan .
