IC 4042 is an elliptical galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type SB0 in the constellation Coma Berenices in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 286 million light-years from the Milky Way , about 40,000 ly in diameter, and a member of the Coma Galaxy Cluster .
The galaxies NGC 4906 , IC 4030 , IC 4041 , IC 4044 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by Hermann Kobold on May 9, 1896 .
