IC 4031 is an elliptical galaxy from the Hubble type E0 in the constellation hunting dogs on the northern sky . It is estimated to be 718 million light years from the Milky Way and about 40,000 light years in diameter.
In the same region of the sky there are u. a. the galaxies IC 3980 , IC 4001 , IC 4037 , IC 4063 .
The object was discovered by Max Wolf on March 21, 1903 .
