Marian Foik

Marian Foik (born October 6, 1933 in Bielszowice, today Ruda Śląska , † May 20, 2005 in Warsaw ) was a Polish athlete and Olympic participant .

Marian Foik was a sprinter who had his greatest success in the 200 meter run . He was also successful in the Polish 4 x 100 meter relay . Foik was six times Polish champion on both sprint courses and set (without relays) twelve Polish national records.

Olympic games

  • 1956 Foik reached the semi-finals in the 100-meter run , in which he was eliminated with 10.6 s. With the relay (Foik, Jan Jarzembowski, Edward Schmidt, Zenon Baranowski) he was in the final, but only reached sixth and last place in 40.6 s.
  • In 1960 Foik finished fourth in the final over 200 meters in 20.8 s. Over 100 meters he was eliminated with 10.5 s in the semifinals. The Polish relay team was disqualified in advance.
  • In 1964 Foik finished sixth over the 200 meters in 20.8 s. The season with the line-up Andrzej Zieliński , Wiesław Maniak , Marian Foik and Marian Dudziak won the silver medal in 39.3 seconds behind the season from the USA. The relay from France took third place at the same time as the Poles.

European championships

  • In 1958 Marian Foik was sixth in the 100 meters in 10.9 s. With the season, Foik was eliminated in advance.
  • In 1962 Foik was again sixth over 100 meters, this time in 10.5 seconds. Over 200 meters he won the silver medal behind the Swede Owe Jonsson in 20.8 seconds. The Polish relay team also won silver in 39.5 with Jerzy Juskowiak , Andrzej Zielinski, Zbigniew Syka and Foik as the final runners. The victorious German season had the same time.
