Marian Kazda

Marian Kazda (born March 12, 1957 in Dačice ) is a Czech-Austrian forest scientist . He is professor of systematic botany and ecology at the University of Ulm and director of the Ulm Botanical Garden .

Life

Marian Kazda grew up in Brno , Czechoslovakia . From 1980 to 1983 he studied forestry at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna and wrote his diploma thesis on the accumulation of heavy metals in the soil of the beech trees . In 1985 he received his doctorate on heavy metal deposition processes in the Vienna Woods , and in 1989 he received his habilitation in forest site studies . Since 1995 he has held the professorship for systematic botany and ecology at the University of Ulm.

Kazda is researching the use of biowaste as a substrate for the production of combustible biogas . In the institute's own biogas plant , Kazdas working group investigates the gas formation, the pH value , the buffer capacity and the breakdown of the various organic substances in the bioreactor .

Honors

  • 1984 Rupert Hatschek Prize for the thesis on heavy metal enrichment in the soil of the beech trees
  • 1987 special award from Dr. Karl Schleinzer Foundation for research on the nutrient balance of forest ecosystems
