Marian Kotleba (born April 7, 1977 in Banská Bystrica ) is a Slovak politician and party leader of the right-wing ĽSNS .

From 2013 to 2017 he was regional president of the Slovak country Banská Bystrica , since the National Council election in 2016 he has been a member of the Slovak National Council for his party .

Life

Career

Kotleba graduated from the " Jozef Murgaš " Middle Industrial School in the field of electrical computer systems and studied at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica. He completed his studies with a diploma as a teacher. In August 2013, Kotleba graduated from the Faculty of Economics of Matej Bel University and received the degree of industrial engineer. From September 2001 he taught at the sports high school in Banská Bystrica, but in 2006 he was transferred from the school management to a post in the administration. After the ban by the Slovak Community, Kotleba founded a fashion label called "KKK Mode". In July 2012, he was fired from school.

Political activity

Kotleba took over the leadership of the ultra-nationalist Slovak community in 2003. In 2007 he was replaced by Ivan Sýkora , but Kotleba remained the face of the movement. In December 2008 the Slovak Ministry of the Interior banned the Slovak Community, but the following year it continued to operate. Until 2008, the members of the Slovak Community mostly appeared in black uniforms similar to those of the Hlinka Guard . With the marches in the summer of 2009, the appearance changed significantly: the clothing remained mainly black, but the uniforms disappeared and were replaced by umbrella caps and leather jackets. At the head of the Slovak community is a “vodca” ( guide ).

Kotleba was arrested several times by the police: for example in March 2009 when he ended his speech in Bratislava with the fascist greeting “Na stráž” ( On guard ), and in August of the same year when he wanted to lead a demonstration in the east Slovak municipality of Krompachy .

In 2005 Kotleba founded his first political party, the "Slovak Community - National Party" ( Slovenská pospolitosť - Národná strana ). However, it was banned in 2006 because its program was against the constitution.

On November 14, 2009, the heads of government of the districts ( Župan ) were elected in Slovakia . As an independent candidate in the Banská Bystrica district, Marian Kotleba received 10% of the votes cast and thus achieved fourth place among the new candidates. He had advertised his election exclusively on the Internet and with leaflets.

In the district elections in November 2013, Kotleba received 21.30% of the votes cast in the first round and thus made it into the runoff election with the social democratic incumbent Vladimír Maňka. In the second round of elections, Kotleba prevailed with 55% of the votes cast against the social democratic incumbent Vladimír Maňka and thus elected the new Župan of the Banská Bystrica district. The turnout was 24.6%.

After the postponement of the inauguration, Kotleba took the oath on December 20, 2013. During the inauguration, some MPs refused to shake hands with him.

On January 30, 2014, against the backdrop of the mass protests in Ukraine , Kotleba addressed an open letter to Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych . In his letter, Kotleba urged Yanukovych not to give in “in the interests of the future of the Slavic peoples”, since one cannot negotiate with “terrorists”. According to Kotleba, this would proceed in the same way as with the disempowerment of the “Serbian national hero Slobodan Milošević ”.

Kotleba, who is considered a supporter of the Slovak state allied with the Third Reich , stayed away from the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the Slovak national uprising on August 29, 2014 and instead hung a poster in front of the official building in Banská Bystrica with the words Yankees go home! Stop NATO! on.

In April 2016, as regional president, Kotleba announced that he would found a home guard for “high-risk” trains, which would monitor the situation and intervene in the event of conflicts. The same reason was given for the establishment of such a home guard as before for the alleged protection of decent people from "Gypsy parasites " in the vicinity of Roma ghettos: The state is allegedly unable to do so.

Kotleba ran again in the regional elections in November 2017. Against the common candidate of several other parties, Ján Lunter , he achieved only 23.2% and was voted out.

In March 2019, he ran as a candidate in the Slovak presidential elections .
