Life

Historic Palm House Frankfurt

Her book The Gardens of China was published in 1983, with illustrations by He Zhengqiang. In 1996 the architecture publishing house Peking published The Gardens of China in Chinese translation. Further publications by her are Symbolik der Pflanzen (1995) and Gardens on the Travel Route - From Ireland to Portugal (1997). In 1997 and 1998, these two books were selected by the German Horticultural Society as one of the "Top five gardening books". She has also published numerous articles on gardens and plants in the magazine of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and other magazines.

Marianne Beuchert became famous for her shop “Blumen-Beuchert” on Rathenauplatz in Frankfurt and for her commitment to the Frankfurt Palm Garden . As a member of the Board of Trustees, she was particularly committed to preserving the historic palm house.

After her death in 2007, she bequeathed her property with the magnificent park, with old, protected trees and rare old bush peonies and rose bushes in Preungesheim at Marbachweg 55/57 to the director of the Palmengarten Frankfurt , Matthias Jenny. She hoped that this would preserve her garden.

Matthias Jenny sold the Beuchert villa to an intermediate buyer who after a very short time sold it to Wohnbau GmbH from Bonn. Based on a development plan from the 1980s, the building permit for the construction of two complexes with 43 apartments and an underground car park was granted. The housing association destroyed the historically grown garden, felled protected trees and destroyed the old roses.
