Mariano Ricafort Palacín y Abarca

Mariano Ricafort Palacín y Abarca (born February 1776 in Huesca , † 1846 ) was a Spanish general, governor of the Philippines and Cuba .

Life

His parents were Juana Palacín y Aysa and José de Ricafort y Abarca a doctor of law, Regidor for life of the city of Huesca, who sued in 1782 for recognition of the title of Palacín ( Paladin ).

Mariano Ricafort Palacín y Abarca came to Arequipa with Pablo Morillo in 1815 and was commissioned by the Viceroy of Peru, Joaquín de la Pezuela , to put down the expedition to liberate Peru .

The separatists occupied Jauja on November 20, 1816 , and defeated the local colonial power near Tarma on November 23, 1816 . In the days that followed, some places declared their independence from Spain. On November 29, 1816, the troops under Ricafort in Ayacucho (Peru) , beat the separatists and Ricafort had a bloody criminal court held. The Montoneros in the surrounding area were declared defeated on December 2nd, 1816 and Ricafort demonstratively had a place that had resisted burned down.

General Mariano Ricafort Palacín y Abarca was appointed ministro of a Tribunal Supremo de Guerra y Marina in Cusco . As such, he led the proceedings for high treason against the separatists in La Paz. The viceroy of Peru, Pezuela liked the rigorous approach of Ricafort and he appointed him director of La Paz, which had previously belonged to the viceroyalty of La Plata . From 1816 to 1817 he headed the Intendencia de La Paz . Mariano Ricafort Palacín y Abarca married Antonia Paula Sánchez de Lima, the daughter of his successor in the Intendencia of La Paz.

From 1825 to 1830 he was governor of the Spanish colony of the Philippines, from 1832 to 1834, after being appointed by Ferdinand VII of Spain , he exercised the same function in Cuba.

He was decorated with the Order of Ferdinand , Order de Isabel la Católica , Order of St. Hermenegild and the Russian Order of St. Anne .
