Marie-Jo Thiel

Marie-Jo Thiel (born May 7, 1957 in Sarralbe ) is a French Roman Catholic theologian .

Life

Marie-Jo Thiel studied medicine and Roman Catholic theology at the University of Strasbourg . Her medical doctoral thesis dealt with the topic of Tuberculoses ostéo-articulaires reconnues grâce à une autre localization. Difficultés du diagnostic . Thiel has been a professor for Catholic theology with a focus on ethics and bioethics at the University of Strasbourg since 1999 .

Thiel was Vice President from 2015 to 2017 and has been President of the European Society for Catholic Theology since 2017. The society publishes the journal ET Studies .

Thiel was appointed by Pope Francis to the Pontifical Academy for Life in 2017 . In early 2019, she presented a comprehensive study on the sexual abuse of minors in the Catholic Church.
