Marie Magdalene Church

The Marie Magdalene Church is a church in the Diocese of Århus Lutheran Danish People's Church . It is located in the Syddjurs municipality , west of Ryomgård ( Aarhus Letbane from Aarhus to Grenaa ), in the middle of Djursland ( Jutland ).

The connection to Gammel Ryomgård is clear from the church's rich inventory. These include the Rococo - altar , whose painting the Last Supper shows the rule chair in the tower hall, the pulpit with hourglass and the Evangelists in the niches. The medieval frescoes depict allegorical and biblical motifs .

According to church tradition, a Marie and a Magdalene gave the church their names. In gratitude that the two virgins were healed by a spring located there , a chapel was built, which is considered to be the predecessor of today's church from 1425.

The church became famous for its two rowan trees , which grew several hundred years out of the walls above the church porch.
