Tomasz Bernard Peta (born August 20, 1951 in Inowrocław , Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship , Poland ) is Archbishop of Astana in Kazakhstan .

Life

Tomasz Peta studied biblical studies in the seminary of the Archdiocese of Gniezno and pastoral theology in Warsaw . He was ordained a priest on June 5, 1976 and was active in pastoral care . 1990 he became vicar in the parish of Mary Queen of Peace in Oziornoe in Kazakhstan ; he was also dean of the northern pastoral region.

Pope John Paul II appointed him Apostolic Administrator in Astana in 1999 . In 2001 he appointed him titular bishop of Benda and donated to him on 19 March 2001 in St. Peter's Basilica , the episcopal ordination ; Co- consecrators were Cardinal Angelo Cardinal Sodano and Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re , Prefect of the Congregation for Bishops .

In 2003 John Paul II appointed him the first Archbishop of the Archbishopric of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Astana after the administration was elevated to the position of Archbishopric . In the same year he also became President of the Episcopal Conference of Kazakhstan. In 2008 he was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI. called to the Congregation for the Clergy .
