Marie-Victoire Jaquotot (born January 15, 1772 in Paris , † April 27, 1855 in Toulouse ) was a French painter whose artistic career was at the time of Queen Marie Antoinette (1755–1793), the wife of King Louis XVI. (1754-1793) began. Some of her works are in the possession of the Louvre in Paris .

Life

After the French Revolution (1789) and the preliminary end of the French monarchy of the old school, she worked - initially as an unknown artist - on cups and plates in the style of a cameo for the renowned porcelain -Manufaktur of Sèvres . She remained employed there until 1842. She refined her technique until she gradually became a well-known painter of colored figures on porcelain panels. As a result, Jaquotot specialized in the technique of porcelain painting. In the period from 1816 to 1836 she had her own school that taught this technique. She received private commissions and taught students in her Paris studio. One of these students was Charles Le Guay (1762-1846), whom she later married.

After General Napoleon Bonaparte had crowned himself as the new Emperor of France, she was given the opportunity to portray him on porcelain in 1813/14. As a surprise for his wife Marie-Louise, Napoleon deliberately commissioned the portrait at a time when the political situation in France was becoming more difficult. It shows him in the month of the coronation with a golden laurel wreath .

During the reign of the Bourbon King Louis XVIII. the work Peintre sur porcelaine du Cabinet du Roi was created (1816), whose brother Charles X finally awarded her the title of the King's First Porcelain Court Painter (1828).
