The Marie ( original spelling MARIE ) is the replica of a historic motorboat from 1908, completed in 2013 , which is used as a tour boat on the central watercourse in Bremen's Bürgerpark .
The first Marie
The original Marie was an excursion boat delivered on November 8, 1908, which sailed the waters of the Bürgerpark. It was built at the Lürssen shipyard , which together with Gottlieb Daimler had built the world's first motorboat, the Rems , as early as 1886 . The Marie had a length of 12.52 meters, a width of 2.31 meters, was constructed in a Kraweel construction and equipped with a diesel engine from Daimler with 7.5 hp . It offered space for up to 50 passengers.
The boat was named after Marie Hagemann, the daughter of the then tenant of the dairy in the Bürgerpark. A second, identical boat from 1913 was called Meierei - it replaced an older boat of the same name from 1902.
During the First World War , the operation of the motorboats in the Bürgerpark was suspended and only resumed in spring 1921. In World War II, both boats were damaged and sold on termination of the 1945th
The replica
On the initiative of the Bürgerparkverein honorary member Walter Messerknecht, a replica of the Marie was commissioned from Bremer Bootsbau Vegesack gGmbH in 2009. The dimensions and shape of the boat were taken from original plans by Lürssen from 1913. Due to the bankruptcy of Bremer Bootsbau in 2012, the construction was finally completed at the Winkler shipyard in Burglesum . The replica was financed by specific donations.
The new Marie weighs 4.15 t . The hull is made of larch wood , planked with mahogany polished to a high gloss . The inner shell serves as a float. It consists of hard foam covered with glass fiber reinforced plastic . A 9 HP electric motor drives the boat at around 4 km / h. The batteries allow an operating time of around 10 hours and can be charged overnight in the newly built boathouse on Meiereisee. In addition, the Marie has a small bow propeller that makes it easier to dock. For safety reasons, the boat - in contrast to its predecessor - is only designed for 30 people (plus a 2-man crew).
In April 2013, the new Marie was launched and baptized on Pentecost Sunday, May 21, 2013. In good weather from May to October, on Fridays, weekends and public holidays, the boat sails on a circuit over the central watercourse of the Bürgerpark from the boathouse on the Meiereisee past the arcade to the Emmasee, on through the animal enclosure, to the forest stage and back to the Meiereisee. It is possible to get on and off at four piers on the route.
The crew is provided by the Bremen peat barge project .
