Marie Lachenal ( 1848 - 1937 ) was a British classical music concertina player , she played for the British concert company Lachenal & Co., founded by her father in 1858.

Life

Marie Lachenal grew up in west London. She was the daughter of the Swiss concertina manufacturers Luis and Elisabeth Lachenal. Father Louis Lachenal started producing concertinas in 1848 and had his own factory since 1853 , the concertina production company Lachenal & Co in Chiswick . After his early death, her mother took over the business. Marie had two sisters, Eugenie and Josephine, with whom she made her debut as a concertina concertist on June 14, 1865 at Myddelton Hall in Islington at the age of 16 . The three sisters gave concerts together between 1865 and 1866, promoting their father's concertinas. Marie Lachenal was one of the best concert players of her time, such as: Giulio Regondi , Richard Blagrove and George Case. In 1848 she married the Bournemouth photographer Edwin Albert Debenham and they had nine children.
