Marie Pujmanová

Marie Pujmanová , née Hennerová (born June 8, 1893 in Prague , † May 19, 1958 ibid) was a Czech novelist and journalist.

Live and act

She devoted her work mainly to novels that dealt with the social problems of the time. Her work provides a panorama of Czech society from the 1920s to the end of World War II . She is considered to be the founding figure of Czech Socialist Realism and was described as a "stubborn Stalinist " and critic of Václav Havel (1936–2011) in his youth.

In the 1950s, Pujmanová advanced to become a decisive protagonist of the Stalinist show trials, in which numerous death sentences were passed, some of which she herself demanded.

She is known in particular as the author of a trilogy of novels , consisting of the three works People on the Way of the Cross , Playing with Fire and Life Against Death . Her trilogy was included in the Russian book series Library of World Literature published by the Chudoschestwennaja literatura publishing house. In 1953 she was honored as a people 's artist .

She was also a writer of poems .
