The Marienkirche in Hürup , a municipality in the Schleswig-Flensburg district in Schleswig-Holstein , is a brick building from the beginning of the 13th century.

history

The Marienkirche in Hürup is a simple, single-nave brick building with a flat wooden ceiling from the beginning of the 13th century. The retracted box choir was extended by a three-sided closure and vaulted in the Gothic period. The tower was added in the 16th century . In 1892 the tower hall was connected to the nave and in 1934 the south portal was added.

Furnishing

The Romanesque baptismal font made of granite dates back to the 12th century and is attributed to the stonemason Horder .

On the north side of the church there is a six-meter-long relief from around 1265, which is one of the most important works of early Gothic sculpture in northern Germany. The seven reliefs of the Hürup Passion depict the capture, flagellation, descent from the cross, entombment, resurrection, the three women at the grave and Christ in limbo.

The small carved altar from the 15th century on the altar table, which was built in 1934, originally belonged to a side altar. In the middle it shows the Trinity in the form of three figures, in the middle God the Father with the globe, in the form of an orb, Christ on the left, the Holy Spirit on the right, represented as a bearded young man holding a dove in his hand . In the side wings there are figures of the Archangel Michael and a holy bishop. A Gothic crucifix is placed on the altar shrine.

The triumphal cross group dates from around 1500, the pulpit from 1698.
