The Marian column in Buchen , a town in the Neckar-Odenwald district in the north of Baden-Württemberg , was erected in 1754 in front of the gatehouse not far from the city tower . The Marian Column , popularly known as “Das Bild”, is a protected cultural monument and a symbol of the Madonna Land .

The Queen of Heaven is enthroned with the baby Jesus on her left arm on the baroque column made of local red sandstone with a Corinthian capital . She holds a lily in her right hand and kicks the snake's head with her foot.

The enlarged letters of the Latin inscription on the base "Q VI T I B I D E V OT I STAT V A M POS V ERE CLI ENTES I STOS A VXILI O PROTEGE VI RGO T V O" (VIIIDVIVMVCLIIVXILIVIV) form a chronogram , which reproduces the year of origin 1754. The translation of the votive slogan reads: "Virgin, protect with your assistance those wards who have erected the statue to you."
