Marina Serafimovna Shirova

Marina Serafimovna Schirova ( Russian Марина Серафимовна Жирова , English transcription Marina Serafimovna Zhirova ; born June 6, 1963 in Jegorjewsk ) is a former Russian athlete who was successful as a sprinter for the Soviet Union in the 1980s .

At the European Championships in 1986 in Stuttgart she won the bronze medal in the 4 x 100 meter relay together with Antonina Nastoburko , Natalja Botschina and Olga Solotarjewa . She also started in the 200-meter run . In the final, in which Heike Drechsler set Marita Koch's world record of 21.71 s, Schirowa took eighth place in 23.18 s.

Shirova celebrated her most significant success at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul. In the 4 x 100 meter relay she won the bronze medal together with Lyudmila Kondratjewa , Galina Maltschugina and Natalja Pomoschtschnikowa . She also started in Seoul in the 100-meter run , but was eliminated there in the semifinals.

Marina Schirowa is 1.70 m tall and had a competition weight of 58 kg.
