Natalja Wladislawowna Voronowa ( Russian: Наталья Владиславовна Воронова , English transcription Natalya Voronova , née Помощникова - Pomoschtschnikowa - Pomoshchnikova ; born July 9, 1965 in Moscow ) is a former Russian sprinter .

Career

In 1983 she became the European junior champion in the 100-meter run . The 1.69 m tall and 63 kg athlete won her first international medal in the adult division at the 1987 World Championships in Rome . There the Soviet team ran in the 4 x 100 meter relay with Irina Slyusar , Pomoschtschnikowa, Natalja German and Olga Antonova in 42.33 s in third place behind the teams from the USA (41.58 s) and of the GDR (41.95 s). In the 100-meter run she reached the semi-finals in Rome.

Another bronze medal in the relay followed at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul . The Soviet team in the line-up Lyudmila Kondratjewa , Galina Maltschugina , Marina Schirowa and Pomoschtschnikowa had to defeat only the relay of the USA (41.98 s) and the GDR (42.09 s) in 42.75 s. In the 100-meter run, Voronova set a personal best in the quarter-finals with a time of 10.98 s. In the final, she finished sixth in a smooth 11 seconds.

In 1992 she won the World Cup in Athletics in Havana over 100 meters and came second in the 200-meter run . The following season she won the bronze medal at the World Indoor Championships in 1993 in Toronto over 200 meters. In the same year, she won the title at the World Championships in Stuttgart with the Russian 4 x 100 meter relay . In the line-up of Olga Bogoslowskaja , Maltschugina, Voronowa and Irina Priwalowa, the Russian women beat the teams of the USA (also 41.49 s) and Jamaica (41.94 s) in 41.49 s . Voronowa also started in Stuttgart in the 100 and 200 meter run. Over 200 meters she achieved a personal best in the semifinals with 22.35 seconds. In the end, she finished sixth on both distances.

At the World Indoor Championships in Barcelona in 1995 , she again won the bronze medal in the 200-meter run. In the same year, she was eliminated in the quarter-finals at the World Championships in Gothenburg in the 100-meter run. At the following World Championships in Athens she reached the semi-finals. She had her last major international success at the 1998 European Championships in Budapest . There the Russian relay won the bronze medal behind the teams of France (42.59 s) and Germany (42.68 s) in the line-up Oxana Eck , Maltschugina, Voronowa and Priwalowa in 42.73 s .

At the end of her career, Voronova ran at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney with the Russian relay to fifth place. In the 100-meter run, she was eliminated in the preliminary round.
