Marina Sorokowa

Marina Sorokowa , née Lepetuchina (* in the 20th century in Moscow ; † May 18, 2015 in Vienna ), was an Austrian violinist and music teacher of Russian descent.

Training and music education activity

Sorokova received her first violin lessons at the age of six at the Central Music School at the Moscow Conservatory with M. Ostaptschenko. She then attended the high school of the Moscow Conservatory and graduated from it with the final examination. She passed her diploma with distinction, with which she completed her subsequent studies at the Moscow Conservatory with Professor M. Terian.

During her studies, Sorokova began teaching as a violin teacher and lecturer for chamber music at the Gnessin Institute in Moscow . Since 1991 she has lived in Vienna and has taught at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna , initially as an assistant to Dora Schwarzberg and since 1995 as a contract teacher. She led several master classes in Austria, Italy, Japan, Croatia and Slovenia, participated in several European music festivals and gave a lecture on her teaching method. Since 1999 she has been the head of a preparatory class for violin. Her students received numerous prizes at well-known international competitions.

Marina Sorokowa died on May 18, 2015 in Vienna.

family

She had been married to the university professor of violin, Leonid Sorokow , since 1976 . Their son Anton , born in 1978, is professor for violin at the Fritz Kreisler Institute of the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. Her son Alexandr Sorokow (* 1985) plays first violin with the Vienna Philharmonic .
