Location of the Flensburg-Mürwik naval base in Schleswig-Holstein |
The naval base command Flensburg-Mürwik was an agency of the German Navy in the urban base of the Flensburg district of Mürwik .
history
The first bases in Flensburg-Mürwik were built by the Imperial Navy at the beginning of the 20th century . They remained in use by the Navy until the end of World War II .
The German Navy turned to the Marine Base Command Flensburg-Mürwik July 1, 1956th It soon moved into the Bonte barracks . The naval base command Flensburg-Mürwik was initially subordinate to the Baltic Sea Section Command , from January 1, 1967 to the Baltic Sea Division and from April 1, 1975 to the newly established Baltic Sea Section Command . On December 31, 1998, the Flensburg-Mürwik naval base command was dissolved. While a small part of the port area, the boat harbor , is used by the Mürwik Naval School , most of the buildings and port facilities have been transferred to the Sonwik residential project . At the Bonte barracks, a large inscribed stone still reminds of the building's former purpose as a naval base command.
tasks
The task of the command was to supply the commandos and facilities of the Navy belonging to the Flensburg-Mürwik naval base and all floating units calling at the base . A branch office in Rendsburg , which existed from 1958 to 1968, supported shipyard and port boaters there.
