Mario Aerts (born December 31, 1974 in Herentals ) is a former Belgian professional cyclist and sports director.

Mario Aerts started his professional career in 1996 at Vlaanderen and drove for Lotto-Mobistar (later Lotto-Adecco ) from 1998 to 2002 . In 2003 and 2004 he was under contract with Team Telekom (T-Mobile-Team). Since the 2005 season he has been with the successor team of his former employer Davitamon-Lotto .

Aerts competed in the Tour de France five times . In 2002 he won the Flèche Wallonne ; in the same year he was also second in the mountain classification of the Tour de France .

At the end of the 2011 season, Mario Aerts ended his active career as he had been suffering from cardiac arrhythmias for years. Since 2012 he is for the team Lotto Belisol team as sports director worked.
