Mario Traversa
Mario Traversa (* Bologna , 1912 ; † 1997 ) was a violinist and conductor .
Life
Traversa was considered “one of the greats among the café violinists ”. He came from La Scala in Milan , where he was concertmaster with Arturo Toscanini . In Germany, together with the brothers Eberhard and Walter Schoener, he founded a salon orchestra for light music , with which he appeared in the 1930s and 1940s as “Mario Traversa, violin, with Schoener band”. In this line-up he also recorded records for “Grammophon”.
During the war he was the conductor of a small entertainment orchestra in Danzig . After the war, Traversa and Walther Günther led the small entertainment orchestra of the then NWDR in Hamburg . There he also performed together with the organist Gerhard Gregor . From the late 1950s he was conductor of the spa orchestra of Bad Pyrmont .
