description

Adult male

The almost 13 centimeter long, rather secret bird resembles the reed warbler . An important distinguishing feature is the almost black headstock, which stands out from the very light eye stripe. The cheeks are more dark brown and the throat lighter. The Marisk Warrior is more rust-colored on the neck and back than the Reed Warbler. Compared to this and the similar sedge warbler , it is also characterized by the habit of erecting its relatively short tail.

voice

Marisk singer's lute

He calls softly but piercingly “t-trrt” and harshly “Tschack”, followed by a rattling alarm rattle. The singing is similar to the reed warbler, but more melodious. Characteristic is a motif that sounds like “lu-lu-lu” and is somewhat reminiscent of the song of the woodlark or the nightingale .

The Mariskensänger is a breeding bird with numerous island-like occurrences in the Turkestan-Mediterranean area. Its breeding area extends from northwest Africa across southern and eastern Spain, southernmost France and Corsica, as well as Italy including Sicily to Croatia and northern southeastern Europe. In Central Europe the Marisken singer breeds mainly in Austria. The specimens that breed there spend the winter in Greece. The Marisken singer occurs further east as far as Central Asia. Stray visitors can be found in the rest of Europe.

The Mariskinger lives in reeds and swamps. It nests in a pipe or in low bushes over shallow water.
