Marius Toudoire

Marius Toudoire (* 1852 in Toulon ; † 1922 ) was a French architect . One of his most important works is a train station, the Gare de Lyon in Paris .

Life

Toudoire studied until 1879 at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris with Charles-Auguste Questel and his student Jean-Louis Pascal .

One of his first major projects was the construction of the Bordeaux Saint-Jean train station , which began in 1889. In 1895 he was commissioned by the Compagnie des chemins de fer de Paris à Lyon et à la Méditerranée to build a train station in Paris , the Gare de, on the occasion of the 1900 World Exhibition Lyon to build.

The restaurant Le Train Bleu with its magnificent interior, the magnificent facades and the iron hall construction are considered to be groundbreaking for the architectural style of the Belle Epoque . Toudoire designed the restaurant and commissioned the 41 paintings from 30 painters.

Between 1903 and 1905 he built the Toulouse-Matabiau train station . In 1908 he built the Tour de Castellane , a 66 m high tower in Épernay .

In the last years of his activity he was mainly active in Algeria . Here in 1910 he designed the main post office in Algiers , the town hall of Annaba and the prefecture of Constantine .
