Mark MacKay (born May 28, 1964 in Brandon , Manitoba ) is a former German - Canadian national ice hockey player who has spent seven seasons in the German ice hockey league with the Schwenninger Wild Wings . Today he works as a player's agent in Canada. His son Matt is also a professional ice hockey player.

Career

MacKay played in the Canadian Junior Western Hockey League with the Moose Jaw Warriors until 1985 . At that time, the then Neuss coach Wolfgang Boos was looking for young, talented ice hockey players from North America . MacKay and his strike partner Brad Bennett were committed to Düsseldorf through ties to the Düsseldorfer EG .

In the following season MacKay played for the then top division club Neusser SC , today's Neusser EV. There he was one of the team's best scorers and scored 151 points in 60 games in the 1985/86 season. This was his personally most successful season in Neuss . After three years with NSC, and the meanwhile promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga , he moved to Grefrather EV in the Oberliga in summer 1988 . There he quickly became a top performer and scored 87 goals in his first season. With Grefrath MacKay also rose to the 2nd Bundesliga, but after a total of 3 years moved again to the upper league at ETC Timmendorfer Strand .

In the summer of 1995 he made the leap into the German Ice Hockey League with the Schwenninger Wild Wings. During his time in Schwenningen , MacKay was also appointed to the national team. MacKay soon became a crowd favorite and also became the captain of the Wild Wings. MacKay played in Schwenningen until the end of his career, which was celebrated with a big farewell game.
