Mark Peskanov

Mark Peskanov (* around 1958 in Odessa ) is an American violinist of Russian origin.

Peskanov attended Pyotr Stoljarski's music school before emigrating to the United States in 1973 when he was fifteen. There he continued his training at the AMFD and at the Juilliard School until 1978 and soon gained the attention of Isaac Stern and Mstislav Rostropovich . He made his debut with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and at Carnegie Hall with great success .

This was followed by appearances with well-known orchestras from the USA, Europe, the Middle East, Australia, South America and Japan, and Peskanov was awarded the Avery Fischer Career Grant , the Frederick R. Mann Award and the Isaac Stern Award from Carnegie Hall. He has a particular interest in contemporary music, and has premiered John Williams 'Violin Concerto with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and Stanley Wolfes' dedicated violin concerto with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra .

He gave the opening concert of Suntory Hall in Tokyo with Yo-Yo Ma and Isaac Stern and the opening concert for the Weill Recital Hall in New York with Stern, Midori and Gil Shaham . Since 1995 he has been President and Artistic Director of Bargemusic , the floating concert hall under the Brooklyn Bridge , for which he organizes more than 200 concerts a year.
