Mark Schreiber, Baron Marlesford

Mark Shuldham writer, Baron Marlesford , DL (* 11. October 1931 ) is a British politician of the Conservative Party and Life Peer .

life and career

Schreiber attended Eton College and Trinity College . He did his National Service with the Coldstream Guards . There he rose to become second lieutenant . Later he worked as a farmer .

From 1957 to 1963 he was at Fisons Ltd. operates. In the Conservative Research Department he was from 1963 to 1967. From 1967 to 1970 he was director of the Conservative Party Public Sector Research Unit . From 1970 to 1974 he was a special advisor to the government. From 1974 to 1975 he was in the opposition .

Also in 1974 he became editorial advisor to The Economist and remained so until 1991. In this position he worked as parliamentary correspondent. From 1989 to 1995 he was director of Eastern Group plc .

From 1968 to 1970 belonged to the East Suffolk County Council . Since 1991 he has been Deputy Lieutenant of Suffolk .

Membership in the House of Lords

Schreiber was on 7 June 1991 to life peer as Baron Marlesford , of Marlesford in the County of Suffolk, was appointed. Its official introduction to the House of Lords took place on June 11, 1991 with the assistance of George Norrie, 2nd Baron Norrie and Elizabeth Carnegy, Baroness Carnegy of Lour . He gave his inaugural address on June 24, 1991.

He mentions nature conservation , defense and the economy of the EU as topics of political interest . He mentions China , Hong Kong and Iran as states of interest . From 2003 to 2007 he was a member of the EU Select Committee . From 2000 to 2005 and since 2010 he has been a member of the Economic and Financial Affairs Sub-Committee . He was a member of the Home Affairs Sub-Committee from 2005 to 2009 .

He took part in a trip to China in December 2011 as a member of the All-Party Parliamentary China Group .

He was a consultant at Mitsubishi Corporation International NV from 1990 to 2003 and at John Swire & Sons from 1993 to 2009. From 1993 to 1998 he was Chairman of the Council for the Protection of Rural England .

Since 1991 he is an independent national director of Times Newspapers Holdings Ltd . From 1997 to 2007 he was director of the Baring New Russia Fund .

Schreiber is currently (December 2012) Non-executive Director of the financial services GaveKal Research in Hong Kong , Chairman ( Chairman ) of Marlesford Parish Council since 1978 and President of the Suffolk Preservation Society since 1998th

family

By his own account, his great grandmother was Greek and a niece of Ioannis Kapodistrias .
